Yin Yoga Class added for Satudays at 9 am

All of us at La Playa are overjoyed to announce the addition of a Saturday Morning Yin Yoga class taught by Paul Wehrman beginning Saturday, February 9th at 9 am. Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for your 'Yang' form of exercise, be it Pilates, running, biking, or even your yang yoga practice. FRANCE PILATES UPDATE!

If you're ever in Pays Basque or European surfing capital BIARRITZ, FRANCE definitely stop into Studio Pilates Biarritz. Rosa Royo, former professional ballet dancer with Ballet Biarritz and classically trained under Philippe Taupin of Le Studio Paris is an "instructor incroyable!" Strong, energetic, kind and professional- I am already looking forward to going back and taking classes from her next summer! MERCI ROSA

The Great (Vegan, Fat Free, Gluten-Free) Pumpkin Bars

I made these for the studio today and am getting so many requests for the recipe, I thought I should post. Credit goes to LOVEmikana, our daily dish on everything local. http://www.lovemikana.com/be-active/

We fall for flavors of this season like pumpkin spice and everything nice, so when we wanted to find a nutritious recipe to fuel our fire, we looked no further than the great pumpkin. More than just a decorative Halloween piece or pie filling to be eaten once a year, this low fat, high fiber fruit is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

To bake this goodness into a healthy, high energy bar, simply harvest these ingredients, combine, cook and continue on your way. These bars are perfect to eat pre and post workouts.

PUMPKIN SPICE PROTEIN BAR

Ingredients:

3 cups old fashioned oats

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1/3 cup ground flax seed

1/2 cup sliced almonds

1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 cup pumpkin puree

1/4 cup applesauce

1/2 cup honey

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Extra: 1 cup cocoa nibs or chocolate chips

 

Directions: Preheat oven to 350. Spray a 9 X 13 pan with non-stick baking spray of your choice. Set aside. Mix all dry ingredients in one bowl and all wet ingredients in another bowl. Combine and press evenly into pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Let cool, cut into squares and enjoy!
